New Year..new adventure!

Hi everyone! My name is Adrienne, and I started this blog as a way of keeping in touch with out-of-town friends, family, and the families with whom we traveled to China with in September of 2009. I enjoyed posting blogs daily from China so my goal was to start the blog as soon as we returned home with our son. Now, 3 months later, I am finally getting around to it..call it a New Year's resolution!

Collin is 3 years old, and we found him on our agency's waiting child list in May of 2009. He has congenital heart disease (Tetralogy of Falot) for which he had surgery to repair in December, 2007 when he was 15 months old. Our initial "log in date", which is basically the date in which we got in line to wait for a healthy baby girl from China, is April 17, 2007. As a result of becomming frustrated with the very long wait to adopt a "healthy" child from China, our minds and hearts were open to looking at the children considered "special needs" that were available immediately.

We fell in love with Collin's picture and profile shortly after he appeared on the list. From there we requested his file and in no time at all, we finally had a child to call our own. After years of waiting to become parents (10 in fact), we were rushing to get Collin's room ready, packing for our trip to China, and making arrangements for time off of work.

Our trip was fantastic and to make a long story short, it was life-changing as we have the most beautiful, loving, and cuddly little Chinese boy to call our son! His bravery amazes us as he has been through more than we could ever imagine. He is bright and inquisitive and brings lots of love and laughter to our home.

The only "special need" we consider our son to have ever had was the need for a loving family to call his own forever, and we gladly accept the job! Collin attends 3 year old pre-k 3 mornings a week and absolutley loves it. His language learning improves on a daily basis and he amazes us as he speaks words and phrases that he has picked up simply by being immersed in our language.

Collin's latest:

phrases: "I hepoo (help you), mommy." and "I liiike ____" (fill in the blank)

favorite color: green (this changes almost weekly)

favorite tv show: Dora

favorite movie: John Deere tractor movie

favorite book: "Thomas breaks a promise"

favorite toy: remote control Thomas the Train and Molly

favorite foods: cheese and corn

What Collin is doing right now: cutting "popcorn" on the carpet with his John Deere combine he got from Santa

I hope you continue to check in with us regularly as my goal is to update on a weekly basis with "Collin news and pics"! Thanks for reading!!!
